Grama Panchayat

  Vengad Grama Panchayat is located in Thalassery block of Thalassery taluk of Kannur district. Spread over the villages of Paduvilai and Pathiriyada, this panchayat has an area of ​​28.09 sq. km. The boundaries of this panchayat are Ancharakandi and Keezhalloor panchayats on the north, Mangattidam and Kottayam panchayats and Mattanur Municipality on the east, Pinarayi panchayats on the south, and Pinarayi, Peralassery and Ancharakandi panchayats on the west. The total population of 35801 includes 18571 females and 17230 males. A part of the second largest Karappa plantation in Asia is located in this panchayat. It is a tourist attraction. The beautified Pachapoyka Town, the Illusion Amusement Park located on the banks of the lake, and the Mambaram Indira Gandhi Children's Park are the main attractions of this panchayat. The main source of drinking water in the panchayat is wells. 13 public wells, several private wells, and about 8000 pipeline connections available through the Jaljeevan Mission are used by the residents of the panchayat for clean water. 14 ration shops are operating in the public distribution area of ​​the panchayat. Agriculture

Vengad is a panchayat that falls in the Edanad region according to its geography. Pattatharikunnu in Anjarakandi is the largest hilly area in this panchayat. The agricultural history of this panchayat dates back to the times of the East India Company. The company had established a warehouse in Anjarakandy to collect the local pepper and send it abroad. A spice farm started here during the company's time, which later became the famous Anjarakandy Brown Saip's Karappathottam. Paddy, banana, cassava, coconut, pineapple, rubber and cashew are the main crops cultivated today. The Anjarakandy River, 36 public ponds and several tributaries are the main water sources in the panchayat. Properly maintaining and utilizing these water sources for agricultural purposes is helpful for the progress of the agricultural sector. Maintaining and utilizing the Pazhassi Canal and the two tributaries of the Pazhassi Canal at Pathiriyada and Paduvilai is essential for the survival and progress of the agricultural sector.

Industry

PVC Medium industries such as pipe manufacturing, oil mill, flour mill, and cleaning products manufacturing unit are operating in the panchayat. Small scale industries existing in the panchayat are furniture unit, garment unit, and Khadi Village Industry Cooperative Society. Traditional industries such as beedi weaving and knitting are also existing. Vengad is a panchayat with great potential for agricultural and non-agricultural industries. Education

Educational activities started in the panchayat towards the end of the 18th-00th century.
